my name is m&m-- i'm a geek.

I've collected Nancy Drew mysteries since I was a little girl. All told, I probably have over three hundred. Several copies of each original hardcover by the pseudo-author Carolyn Keene-- Nancy drives her cool convertible.

Countless paperbacks (from the 80s and 90s) prop up tables and act as doorjambs at my place-- Nancy discusses STDs and fad diets with her friends. (Andy knows about collectors' obsessions. Can you say 'Louis, Louis'?)

I say all this because I just got the most wonderful gift. A mint condition Nancy Drew from the early 30s. The Ivory Charm.

Hm. I wonder how much I could get for it on ebay. I have had my eye on this digital camera.

Nancy would approve. In the newest paperback, she's dating a jet-setting fashion photographer addicted to methamphetamines... oh, god!

Marjo, I'm only aquainted with Ms. Drew by reputation. I'm surprised she's still slewthing or whatever. Tell me about her updated personality. She have tattoos and piercings and into any form of kinkiness we should be aware of. She was always the trend setter.

Hey Bud-

LOL... I don't read the damn things anymore, but I still do collect the original hardcovers. Those are the best. Not because the stories were that good, or anything. But they weren't dumbed down. They used big words for what was arguably, in its day, a preteen audience. I want to give them to my girls one day.

Nancy Drew's probably the main reason that I like to write. So you have her to blame ;P

Ah, one cannot help but conjure visions of Pamela Sue Martin whenever Nancy Drew's name is mentioned.....

But I digress.

Ahh I can still see the bright yellow bindings now:)...How I used to love to read so many series growing up. Now the kids are into Junie B. Jones. Junie B. Jones! She doesn't even speak correct English. Who's the genius who thought of that?

I loved Nancy Drew when I was much younger. THANK YOU Janet for bringing that up about Junie B. Jones - those books drive me nuts. My sister in law (a teacher!) gave my 8 year old some Junie B Jones books and I couldn't believe that she was unable to speak properly. I kept asking my daughter, 'Why can't she speak proper English?' and my daughter would just roll her eyes at me...

Your blog looks great! This is the first time I've seen the new format. And now I'm wondering where all my old Nancy Drew books are hiding. I'll have to ask my mother. Hopefully her answer won't traumatize me as so many of her answers tend to do.
